This position reports to the individual who serves as the campus equal employment opportunity/affirmative action (EEO/AA) director. The Affirmative Action and EEO Specialist (AA/EEOS), with relative independence, performs or arranges for a variety of institutionally important and at times complex workforce data statistical and other administrative analyses, providing information to the EEO/AA director, Executive Vice Chancellor/Campus Provost, Chancellor, principal officers, diversity officer/s and others. The AA/EEOS performs advanced and responsible activities in the areas of monitoring, program planning, evaluation and implementation of UC Santa Cruz's staff and academic employee affirmative action programs.

The AA/EEOS is responsible for producing and/or working with external consulting firms to produce federally mandated staff and academic employee affirmative action plans and for monitoring and, when appropriate, implementing, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) regulations and audit provisions. The AA/EEOS, upon request or direction, conducts or arranges for workforce data statistical analyses aimed at identifying and ultimately addressing areas of potential improvement.

The position serves as a campus workforce data leader and technical affirmative action compliance adviser and is a pivotal contributor to the campus EEO/AA efforts. The position serves as a liason and works closely and collaboratively with colleagues, diversity officer/s, Staff Human Resources (SHR), Academic Personnel Office (APO), Office of Institutional Research, and academic and administrative divisions on affirmative action compliance activities. The AA/EEOS supports campus diversity and inclusion efforts through provision of data and workforce composition graphics as requested and appropriate.

The AA/EEOS is responsible for leading and participating in EEO initiatives including but not limited to outreach efforts to potential applicants who are veterans and those with disabilities.

The AA/EEOS serves as the technical, administrative support and logistical lead for office fair hiring efforts including the fair hiring training working closely with those responsible for training content and delivery.

The position also has responsibility for some outward facing communications such as the EEO/AA content of websites, and other communications.

Under the guidance and direction of the EEO/AA director and/or principal investigator, the AA/EEOS provides research, logistical, analytical and data analysis support for EEO complaints and problem resolution, as needed. The AA/EEOS may also, once trained, conduct appropriate level workplace discrimination investigations.

The AA/EEOS will reside in a newly established unit that reports up to the Chancellor. The Chancellor's Office advances the University's teaching, research and service mission and commitment to excellence by working collaboratively throughout the institution to promote a campus climate that values diversity, equity and inclusion, and works to mitigate and address discrimination, bias and harassment.
